Biographies
Scott Fraser has been composing electro-acoustic music since 1972, working in live performance, theater, dance, film, and radio media. His work, while primarily electronic, has also included works for solo instruments & small chamber ensembles. His pieces often utilize musique concrete techniques combined with acoustic & electric instruments and synthesis, while in recent years he has concentrated on extending the vocabulary of the electric guitar within the format of free improvisation. His recordings have been released on the Fun Music, Artifact, TrancePort, Hypnos, and pfMentum labels. He is also a Grammy-nominated recording engineer & has toured extensively since the early 1990’s as sound designer for the Kronos Quartet.
Bruce Friedman is a trumpeter in the Los Angeles area, working primarily in Jazz and Free Improvisation projects. He’s also played music in pop groups (rock, funk), and classical (orchestra and brass) ensembles. CD releases of Bruce’s, include 'Landscape With Figure' (duo with guitarist Scott Fraser); 'Axes of Symmetry (Jazz/Improv Trio with Derek Bomback - guitar and Alan Cook - drums); 'Edge Study' (a scripted 'conceptual' improv environment, with Motoko Honda on Synth); and 'O.P.T.I.O.N.S.' (improvisations derived from his graphic notation scores.) The OPTIONS project is included in a recent book on Graphic Notation entitled, 'Notations21'. Along with Hyperbolic Quartet, he is also a member of 2 jazz projects - Beach Cities Swing Band and Jazz duo Pluck and Splat (see WIX site), as well as the ensemble Decisive Instant, (playing music with non-traditional notations.)
